GAINESVILLE, Fla., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Urban Meyer's status as an elite college coach was further cemented Monday with a contract extension from the Florida Gators worth a reported $24 million.
The Orlando Sentinel reported the contract six-year extension is among the richest for Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and makes Meyer, 45, the highest paid coach in the Southeastern Conference.
"My family and I are dedicated to Florida and are excited to be a Gator for another six years," Meyer said in a tweet on his Twitter page
He guided Florida to its second national championship in three seasons last year with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma in the BCS title game. In four seasons since taking over the Gators from Ron Zook, Meyer is 44-9, tying for the best win total in the nation over that span.
