MLB: Houston 4, San Francisco 3

HOUSTON, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Kazuo Matsui hit a two-run homer Monday to pace the Houston Astros to a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Geoff Blum also homered for Houston and Carlos Lee was 3-for-4 with an RBI single.

Astros starter Mike Hampton (7-8) held the Giants to two runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings.

Jose Valverde allowed a run in the ninth, but earned his 13th save.

San Francisco starter Matt Cain (12-3) took the loss after allowing all four Houston runs in eight innings.

Ryan Garko had two hits, a walk and an RBI and Pablo Sandoval was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Giants.
