DETROIT, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Clete Thomas homered with two outs in the ninth inning Monday to give the Detroit Tigers a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Miguel Cabrera had a homer and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who have won two in a row. Placido Polanco and Ramon Santiago each had an RBI in the win.
Fernando Rodney (2-2) earned the victory by pitching a perfect ninth.
Brian Roberts had a solo homer for the Orioles, who have lost four in a row and 13 of their last 17 games. Luke Scott had a two-run double and Ty Wigginton and Aubrey Huff each had an RBI in the loss.
Detroit starter Justin Verlander gave up five runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in eight innings.
Chris Tillman, making his second major-league start, allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings. Danys Baez (4-5) was charged with the loss.
