BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Forward Patrick Nyarko scored the game's only goal in the 76th minute Saturday, giving the Chicago Fire a 1-0 Major League Soccer win over Real Salt Lake.
Midfielder Tim Ward, who had several scoring chances, set up Nyarko with a head pass on the game-winner, which beat RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando from 25 yards out.
It was Nyarko's fourth goal this season.
Chicago (8-3-8) played without defender Wilman Conde and midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco because both were with the MLS all-stars at training Friday. The Fire remained one point behind first-place Columbus in the Eastern Conference.
RSL (6-8-5) -- which lost despite taking 16 total shots -- is sixth in the West.
