LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Juli Inkster and Michelle Wie are the captain's picks for the U.S. Solheim Cup team, which will play the European team Aug. 21-23 in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Beth Daniel, the U.S. captain, added Inkster and Wie to the team at Lytham St.Anne's, England, where the Women's British Open concluded Sunday.

Catriona Mathew, winner of the Open, is a member of the European team.

The European captain's picks, by Alison Nicholas, are Janice Moodie, Anna Nordqvist and Becky Brewerton.

Inkster will play in her eighth Solheim Cup, Moodie her third and Brewerton her second. Wie and Nordqvist are Solheim rookies.

Other members of the U.S. team, all chosen automatically based on points, are Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Kristy McPherson, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Nicole Castrale, Christina Kim, Brittany Lang, Brittany Lincicome and Natalie Gulbis.

The European team also has Gwladys Nocera, Suzann Pettersen, Tania Elosegui, Laura Davies, Diana Luna, Sophie Gustafson, Helen Alfredsson and Maria Hjorth.

The 49-year-old Inkster has a 14-8-5 record in Solheim Cup play.

"It's an honor to be picked. I was disappointed I didn't play my way on," Inkster said. "I am happy Beth has enough confidence in me and my teammates have enough confidence in me that we can go out and play well as a team."
