Aston Villa wins Peace Cup soccer title

SEVILLE, Spain, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Aston Villa of the English Premier League edged Juventus of Italy 4-3 in a penalty shootout Sunday, winning the Peace Cup soccer championship in Seville, Spain.

Carlos Cuellar scored what turned out to be the decisive goal in the penalty round after the two sides battled to a scoreless draw in the first 90 minutes, The Guardian reported.

A final penalty attempt by Nicola Legrottaglie of Juventus sailed over the net and Aston Villa had the victory.

Aston Villa had beaten FC Porto of Portugal in the semifinals and Juventus advanced with a win over Real Madrid.

The Peace Cup is a 12-team pre-season tournament played at venues in Spain.
