ISTANBUL, Turkey, July 31 (UPI) -- No. 3 Anabel Medina Garrigues, the highest seed left, lost 6-1, 6-2 to fifth-seeded Vera Dushevina at Friday's Istanbul Cup quarterfinals.
The victory by the 22-year-old Dushevina made her 2-1 lifetime against Medina Garrigues and set up a semifinal match Saturday against Timea Bacsinszky, an easy 6-0, 6-1 winner against overmatched Urszula Radwanska.
"I'm in really good shape and it's bringing me a lot of confidence, especially since I didn't play for six months because of my knee," Bacsinszky said after her unexpected rout. "It has been a really tough year for me with injury, but I'm really happy to be back on track."
Elsewhere, Andrea Petkovic beat seventh-seeded Olga Govortsova 6-3, 6-3; and No. 8 seed Lucie Hradecka downed Marta Domachowska 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
Saturday's other semifinal is Petkovic-Hradecka.
Sunday's champion will collect $37,000.
