UMAG, Croatia, July 31 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko and Juan Carlos Ferrero led Friday's quarterfinal winners at the Croatia Open tennis tournament at Umag, Croatia.
Davydenko, last week's winner at the Hamburg Open, beat Italian Simone Bolelli 7-6 (12-10), 6-1, while Ferrero, a former world No. 1 and the tournament's fifth seed, topped Maximo Gonzalez 7-5, 6-2.
Davydenko converted 4-of-11 break point chances and struck seven service aces in his eighth successive victory, reaching a semifinal for the fourth time this season.
Also Friday, fourth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria downed Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 by saving a match point to force a third set, and seventh-seeded Andreas Seppi of Italy beat Chile's Nicolas Massu 6-4, 6-4.
Saturday's semis are Davydenko-Melzer and Seppi-Ferrero.
