ESPN planning story about Steve Bartman

CHICAGO, July 30 (UPI) -- ESPN will highlight Chicago Cubs fan Steve Bartman during a one-hour documentary about Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship series.

The Cubs were leading the Florida Marlins 3-0 in the top of the eighth and were just five outs away from their first World Series berth since 1945.

Distraught fans said Bartman may have cost the Cubs a series victory when he interfered with a foul ball that left fielder Moises Alou was about to catch.

Florida came back and won the contest 8-3 and the series 4-3.

The cable sports network announced Wednesday the Bartman documentary will be part of its "30 for 30" series and attempts to answer the question: Can Bartman ever forgive Chicago?

It will be done by writer-director Alex Gibney of the Oscar-nominated "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" and the Academy Award-winning "Taxi to the Dark Side."

The series, set to debut in early October, marks ESPN's 30th anniversary.
