MADRID, July 28 (UPI) -- Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal for his new team and set up another Tuesday, helping Real Madrid to a 4-2 Peace Cup victory over Liga de Quito.
The decision lifted Real Madrid into the Peace Cup semifinals Friday against Juventus.
Ronaldo, who recently joined Real Madrid in an eye-popping $137 million deal with Manchester United, broke a scoreless tie three minutes into the second half with a penalty shot after being tripped in the box.
Two minutes later he drilled a shot from 25 yards that Quito goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez was able to save. But Esteban Granero knocked in the rebound for the 2-0 lead.
Quito's Enrique Daniel Vera scored with a header at the 68-minute mark only to have Christoph Metzelder answer for Real Madrid with a header of his own three minutes later.
Quito again got within one goal when Vera again found the goal late in regulation. However, Real Madrid added an Alvaro Negredo goal, off a Royston Drenthe crossing pass, two minutes into injury time.
