SAN FRANCISCO, July 28 (UPI) -- San Francisco starting pitcher Randy Johnson, who has been on the disabled list since July 6, learned Tuesday he may be out until September.
Johnson has a tear in his rotator cuff and the updated injury status was revealed after an MRI exam performed on Monday.
The left-hander was placed on the DL with what was believed at the time to be a left shoulder strain.
Giants Manager Bruce Bochy announced prior to Tuesday's game against the Pirates that the rotator tear will most likely keep Johnson out of action until early September at the earliest.
