Marte, 25, takes the roster spot of first baseman Ryan Garko, who was traded to San Francisco Monday. He spent last season with Cleveland but hit just .221 with three home runs and 17 RBI batted in 80 games.

Marte was batting .327 with 24 doubles, 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 82 games this season for Columbus.
