Twins pitcher out for rest of season

MINNEAPOLIS, July 27 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that pitcher Kevin Slowey will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Slowey has been on the disabled list since July 4 with a strained right wrist. He was trying to rehab the injury but suffered a setback Friday and was shut down. After consulting with team doctors the decision was made that the right-hander would have surgery to remove a bone chip in the wrist.

Slowey was 10-3 with a 4.86 ERA with 75 strikeouts and 15 walks this season.
