PHOENIX, July 27 (UPI) -- The Phoenix Suns made it official Monday, saying they have signed guard Steve Nash to a two-year contract extension through the 2011-12 season.

The Arizona Republic had reported last week Nash would bank about $22 million under the deal. The NBA club didn't say how much they will be paying him.

"Steve is still one of the best point guards in the NBA, and his dedication to conditioning will keep him among the league's elite for several more seasons," Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said. "In many ways he embodies what our franchise is all about, and we're thrilled that he will be the leader of our team for the next three years."

The 35-year-old, six-time All-Star averaged 15.7 points and 9.7 assists in 74 games last season. He has averaged 14.4 points and 8.0 assists in 934 games in 13 seasons with Phoenix and Dallas.
