Johnson beats Martin at the Brickyard

INDIANAPOLIS, July 26 (UPI) -- Jimmie Johnson fended off Mark Martin Sunday and won the Sprint Cup Allstate 400 at the Brickyard in Indianapolis.

By beating his Hendrick Motorsports teammate to the checkered flag, Johnson became first driver ever to record consecutive Sprint Cup Series victories at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Martin, the pole sitter, finished second when Juan Pablo Montoya had to serve a pass-through penalty after leading 116 of 160 laps.

Following a caution flag with just 24 laps left, Johnson moved around Martin to take the lead for the first time and beat him to the finish line by four-tenths of a second.

"(Mark) was fast," Johnson said after the third victory in his last four races at Indianapolis. "For an old guy, he had me pretty worried."

Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle and Brian Vickers completed the top-five finishers.

The caution flew when Dale Earnhardt Jr blew an engine.
