"I was driving the ball well," the 54-year-old Norman, a two-time British Open winner, said after his best round in recent memory. "I could see the shots I wanted on the tee so I just went and played them. I didn't expect Fred to come backwards, to be honest."

His bogeyless round included six birdies.

Funk also led after the first round Thursday and his 8-under 129 Friday established a 36-hole tournament record.

Denis Watson (66), the 2007 Senior PGA Championship winner, is 8-under 202, alone in fourth.
