SEATTLE, July 25 (UPI) -- Travis Hafner touched off a home run outburst in the late innings Friday that brought the Cleveland Indians a 9-0 victory over Seattle.
Aaron Laffey (4-2) allowed three hits and struck out seven in seven innings, but had only a 1-0 lead through six. The Indians broke the game open with four homers in the last three innings.
Hafner hit a two-run shot and Ben Francisco added a solo homer -- both in the seventh. Ryan Garko added a three-run blast in the ninth, after which Jamey Carroll had his first home run of the season in 155 at-bats.
Victor Martinez finished off a five-run ninth with an RBI single.
Ryan Rowland-Smith started for the Mariners after being called up from Class AAA Tacoma to replace the ineffective Garrett Olson in the rotation. Rowland-Smith (0-1) kept Seattle in the game by giving up just two hits and a run through six before being roughed up by the two home runs in the seventh.
