DETROIT, July 24 (UPI) -- Clete Thomas drove in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk Friday, giving Detroit a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox and a double-header sweep.

The Tigers won the opener of the day-night twin bill 5-1 and the two victories lifted them two games in front of Chicago at the top of the American League Central.

Chicago took a 3-1 lead through three innings thanks to a solo homer by Jim Thome and a two-run shot by Jermaine Dye.

The Tigers tied it in the fifth, with Dusty Ryan's single driving in one of the runs and a fielder's choice grounder by Placido Polanco bringing in Brandon Inge from third with the other.

It was still 3-3 in the eighth when Polanco singled and moved to third on a one-out double by Magglio Ordonez. Miguel Cabrera was walked intentionally to load the bases, after which Matt Thornton relieved Scott Linebrink.

Thornton struck out pinch-hitter Ryan Raburn but walked Thomas on a 3-2 pitch to force in the eventual winning run.

The victory went to Brandon Lyon (4-4), who struck out one in a perfect eighth. Fernando Rodney fanned two in the ninth for his 21st save.

Linebrink (2-5) took the loss.
