OAKVILLE, Ontario, July 24 (UPI) -- Jerry Kelly, within three holes of finishing his second round when bad weather halted play, had a one-shot lead Friday at the rain-marred Canadian Open.

No player in the field was able to complete 36 holes Friday and half the field did not even get started in the second round. The tournament became so disjointed because of the stops and starts caused by the weather that 11 players withdrew.

Kelly was at 11-under through 15 holes of his second round. Those at 10-under included Martin Laird through 17 holes, Tim Herron through 16, Camilo Villegas through 15 and Nathan Green through 12.

The first round was finally completed Friday after more than an eight-hour suspension Thursday. After the second round got started, more rain moved in to force a halt in the action. Play began again shortly after 7 p.m. EDT, but only 30 minutes of golf took place before a final stoppage was ordered.

Villegas and Kevin Na were the first-round co-leaders after each shot a 63. Na did not hit a single shot Friday and found himself tied for sixth at 9-under with Bob Estes, who had played 13 holes.

Anthony Kim moved into contention, standing at 7-under through 14. Neither Scott Verplank nor Retief Goosen, both of whom shot a 7-under 65 in the opening round, were able to get their second round started.
