DETROIT, July 23 (UPI) -- Jarrod Washburn gave up two hits in seven scoreless innings Thursday, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Washburn (8-6) threw 93 pitches with two walks and three strikeouts before Mark Lowe and Sean White finished the eighth and closer David Aardsma earned his 24th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Seattle's runs scored on Mike Sweeney's first-inning double and Wladimir Balentien's sixth-inning groundout.
Sweeney and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits apiece for the Mainers, who won twice in the three-game series and have won six of their last seven.
Detroit's run scored on Curtis Granderson's eighth-inning triple.
Brandon Inge and Placido Polanco also had one hit apiece for the Tigers, who have lost five of six.
Losing pitcher Luke French (1-1) surrendered two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
