NASHVILLE, July 23 (UPI) -- A hearing for the man who allegedly sold the firearm used to kill former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been postponed by a federal judge.

The (Nashville) Tennessean said Thursday the federal court hearing for Adrian Gilliam Jr. on Wednesday was rescheduled to Friday after Gilliam's attorney informed the presiding judge of his need to interview new witnesses in the case.

Gilliam stands accused of selling a handgun to Sahel Kazemi, 20, McNair's mistress. Kazemi used the firearm to kill the former NFL player and herself July 4, authorities allege.

The Tennessean said Gilliam allegedly admitted to federal officials he sold Kazemi a pistol prior to the deadly shooting.

The gun sale itself was considered legal, but Gilliam was banned from possessing a handgun at the time due to a previous second-degree murder conviction.

The Tennessean said Gilliam has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
