Errani rolls on at Slovenia Open

PORTOROZ, Slovenia, July 23 (UPI) -- Fifth seeded Sara Errani won her second-round match Thursday in Portoroz to remain one of only two seeds left at the Slovenia Open tennis tournament.

Errani took 50 minutes to trounce Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-1 and joined top-seeded Dinara Safina of Russia, the No. 3 player in the latest women's world rankings, to advance past the second round in Portoroz.

Also Thursday, eighth-seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic lost 6-4, 6-4 to France's Camille Pin; Russian Vesna Manasieva, a first-round winner against second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain, was defeated 6-1, 6-3 by Croatia's Petra Martic; and Italy's Alberta Brianti downed Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-4, 6-1.

Friday's quarterfinal matches are Safina vs. Maria Elena Camerin; Errani vs. Martic; Pin vs. Alberta Brianti, and Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele will face Rossana de los Rios of Paraguay.

The tournament's eventual champion will earn a $37,000 winner's check Sunday.
