BAD GASTEIN, Austria, July 23 (UPI) -- No. 1-seed Alize Cornet rallied for a three-set win Thursday, a day when two other high seeds lost at the Gastein Ladies tennis tournament in Austria.

Cornet had her serve broken three times in the opening set before she came back for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over local favorite Patricia Mayr. Cornet was on the attack more after the first set and piled up seven service breaks taking the second-round match.

She advanced to Friday's quarterfinals against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, who was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Nuria Llagostera Vives in her Thursday match.

Third-seeded Sybille Bammer, who won a tournament last week in the Czech Republic, and No. 4-seeded Iveta Benesova failed to make the Gastein semifinals. Bammer was topped 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 by Ioana Raluca Olaru. Benesova lost the first set 6-1 and retired with a left thigh injury, allowing Andrea Petkovic to reach the quarters.

Olaru drew No. 6-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova for Friday's quarterfinals while Petkovic plays seventh-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld. The fourth match Friday has Yvonne Meusberger going against Yaroslava Shvedova.
