ROME, July 22 (UPI) -- Anthony Azevedo scored four goals Wednesday, helping carry the United States to a 13-6 win over Macedonia in the World Water Polo Championships.

The Americans, winners of the silver medal at last year's Olympics, captured their second game without a loss in the round-robin phase of the tournament.

Romania is also unbeaten in Group D and will meet the United States in the third and final game of the preliminary round Friday. Both teams have clinched a spot in the knockout phase of the tournament, but the winner Friday will earn a bye into the quarterfinals.

Hungary, which defeated the Americans in the gold medal game in Beijing last year, was held to a 7-7 tie by Germany in Group A Wednesday. Spain and Croatia are unbeaten in their groups.

The water polo event is being held in conjunction with the World Diving Championships and the World Swimming Championships. There were no finals contested Wednesday in the diving competition, where China has won four of the seven gold medals awarded to date.

The swimming championships, where Olympic hero Michael Phelps is expected to again dominate, begin Sunday.
