WASHINGTON, July 22 (UPI) -- Craig Stammen and three relievers held New York to four hits Wednesday and Washington put together a rare winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Mets.

The Nationals ended a six-game losing skid and have won back-to-back games for the first time since July 4-5.

Stammen (3-5) gave up all four hits and one run while striking out five over 7 1/3 innings. The Washington relief corps did not allow a base runner, with Mike MacDougal working the ninth for his sixth save.

Josh Willingham went 4-for-4 and produced a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the sixth.

The loss went to Mike Pelfrey (7-6), who surrendered three runs on six hits in seven innings.

New York did not put a runner on base until David Wright singled to open the fifth.
