
HAMBURG, Germany, July 21 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon was upset by wild card German Daniel Brands Tuesday in the second round of the Hamburg Open.
Brands lost the first set to Simon but wound up winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In other second-round action, Spaniard Ivan Navarro won 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) over fourth-seeded fellow countryman Tommy Robredo; Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat fifth-seeded Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2, 6-4; and Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay defeated ninth-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Also, eighth-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber beat Italian Potito Starace 6-2, 4-6, 6-4; 10th-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili; and France's Paul-Henri Mathieu beat Spaniard Pere Riba 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3).
