Top seed Cornet wins opener at Gastein

BAD GASTEIN, Austria, July 21 (UPI) -- Top seed Alize Cornet of France beat Mariana Duque Marino of Colombia 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 Tuesday in opening play at the Gastein Ladies tennis event in Austria.

Cornet advanced to play Patricia Mayr of Austria, who defeated Spain's Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-3, 6-3 in opening-round play.

Defending champ Pauline Parmentier of France eliminated Germany's Carmen Klaschka 6-1, 6-1. Eighth-seeded Lucie Hradecka, who reached the tournament final a year ago, lost to Spain's Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-2, 6-2.

In other first-round action Tuesday, Austria's Yvonne Meusburger was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Sharon Fichman of Canada; Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic defeated Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru 7-6 (7-5), 6-3; sixth seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova beat Ukraine's Mariya Koryttseva 6-3, 6-1; and seventh-seeded Anna-Lena Groenefeld beat Zuzana Ondraskova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3.
