LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Jason Schmidt went five innings and got the win Monday in his first big-league start in more than two years when the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Cincinnati 7-5.

Schmidt (1-0) -- whose persistent shoulder ailments and numerous rehab assignments had kept him out of a starting role since June 16, 2007 -- allowed three runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts for the Dodgers, who won their third straight game.

Schmidt has made just six starts for the Dodgers since signing a three-year free-agent deal worth $47 million in December 2006.

Manny Ramirez had two hits, including a two-run home run, Andre Ethier homered and Casey Blake drove in two runs for the Dodgers.

Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect ninth to get his 23rd save.

Reds' starter Micah Owings (6-10) took the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits in five innings.

Brandon Phillips had four hits and one RBI for Cincinnati, which has lost three of its last five games.
