Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DETROIT, July 21 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez hit a grand slam homer in Detroit's five-run first inning Tuesday and the Tigers went on to a 9-7 win over the Seattle Mariners.
Placido Polanco had a homer and two RBI, and Ryan Raburn also drove in two runs for the Tigers. Miguel Cabrera added three hits with a solo home run.
Rick Porcello (9-6) got the win despite giving up five runs and nine hits in five innings. Fernando Rodney earned his 20th save.
Jack Hannahan had two home runs, Ryan Langerhans a two-run homer, and Wladimir Balentien a homer and two RBI for the Mariners.
Garrett Olson (3-4) was charged with the defeat after allowing seven runs and five hits in 1 1/3 innings.
