WASHINGTON, July 20 (UPI) -- Jeff Francoeur was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI Monday to lead the New York Mets to a 6-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
Livan Hernandez (6-5) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings to snap a four-start losing streak. The Cuban-born veteran started the season with a 5-1 record.
Daniel Murphy was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Mets. Angel Pagan had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Luis Castillo had an RBI and a run scored for New York.
J.D. Martin (0-1) lost his major league debut, giving up five runs on eight hits. Martin spent eight years in the minor leagues with the Cleveland Indians before signing with the Nationals prior to this season as a minor-league free agent.
Josh Bard had a two-run double for Washington, which has lost 11 of its last 12 games.
