American Sam Querry wins at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, July 20 (UPI) -- Third-seeded American Sam Querrey was among Monday's first-round winners at the $450,000 Indianapolis Tennis Championships.

Querrey, 21, beat Frenchman Arnaud Clement 6-3, 6-4 in one hour, 13 minutes. Querrey, who was making his first appearance since a runner-up finish in Newport two weeks ago, is a two-time Indianapolis semifinalist.

Seventh-seeded Marc Gicquel of France defeated Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-2, 6-3 in just one hour and eighth-seeded Uzbekistan Denis Istomin beat American Kevin Kim, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
