BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., July 19 (UPI) -- Cuauhtemoc Blanco set up a key goal Saturday, helping the Chicago Fire record a 2-0 Major League Soccer victory against San Jose Earthquakes.
Blanco assisted on a goal by Patrick Nyarko in the 82nd minute, and then scored his first goal this season in the 89th for the Fire (7-3-7), who retained first place in the Eastern Conference with their just their second win in eight home games this season.
The Earthquakes (3-10-4) sank to 0-7-2 on the road and have accumulated just 13 points all season.
The eighth-place team in the Western Conference has not won since beating Los Angeles 2-1 June 20.
