ST. LOUIS, July 19 (UPI) -- Winning pitcher Joel Pineiro hit a key two-run double Sunday, boosting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Pineiro's seventh hit this season -- coming with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth -- broke up a scoreless tie.

Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and Skip Schumaker had the other hits for the Cardinals, who won for the second time in the three-game series despite getting just the four hits.

Pineiro (8-9) gave up a run and five hits in seven innings before Trever Miller pitched a scoreless eighth and closer Ryan Franklin a scoreless ninth to earn his 22nd save.

Arizona's run scored on Chad Tracy's fifth-inning double. Gerardo Parra, Stephen Drew, Miguel Montero, Mark Reynolds and Chris Young added one hit apiece for the Diamondbacks, who had won eight of 11 coming into the series.

Arizona starter Yusmeiro Petit (0-4) took the loss despite going six strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
