Rainfall halted the contest with Milwaukee leading 4-1 after seven innings.
Corey Hart had two hits and one RBI, Frank Catalanotto had one RBI and a run scored on a fourth-inning error by losing pitcher Aaron Harang, while Counsell and Mike Cameron also had two hits for the Brewers, who have won two of three following the All-Star break.
Cincinnati scored on Casey McGehee's fifth-inning throwing error. Adam Rosales and Willy Taveras had two hits each for the Reds, who have lost three of four.
Harang (5-10) gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts before the rain delay.
