Bammer defeats Schiavone in Prague final

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, July 19 (UPI) -- Austrian Sybille Bammer scored a straight-set win over top-seeded Francesca Schiavone Sunday in the championship match of the Prague Open in the Czech Republic.

Bammer, who was seeded No. 2, topped the Italian player 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 for her second victory on the WTA Tour.

It was a long day for both players. Earlier, they had to complete their semifinal matches, which had been postponed Saturday because of rain.

Bammer reached the final with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Czech Iveta Benesova and Schiavone outlasted Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in the other semifinal.
