TURNBERRY, Scotland, July 17 (UPI) -- The British Open struggles of Tiger Woods Friday led to an oddity involving American players at world's oldest golf tournament.

There have been four American winners of the British Open during the 21st Century -- Woods, Todd Hamilton, Ben Curtis and David Duval.

All of them missed the 36-hole cut Friday.

The last six American winners of the event during the 20th Century, however, all survived the cut.

That group included Mark O'Meara, Justin Leonard, Tom Lehman, John Daly, Mark Calcavecchia and second-round co-leader Tom Watson.

O'Meara, Lehman and Watson are all over the age of 50 and Watson is just two months shy of his 60th birthday. Calcavecchia will turn 50 next June.
