
ARLINGTON, Texas, July 17 (UPI) -- Jason Kubel put Minnesota in front with a three-run homer in the second Friday and the Twins went on to down Texas 5-3.
Glen Perkins (5-5) survived five innings to get the win and Texas could not produce a run against four Minnesota relievers. Joe Nathan worked the ninth for his 24th save.
Josh Hamilton gave Texas the lead with a two-run homer in the first, but Carlos Gomez tied it with a two-run triple in the second.
Joe Mauer delivered a one-out single in the third off Vicente Padilla (7-5) and Justin Morneau doubled Mauer to third. Kubel then hit the decisive blow of the game, a homer to right on a 1-2 pitch.
Kubel's 15th home run of the year gave the Twins their second straight win.
Texas has lost four out of five.
Hamilton singled in the game's final run in the fifth.
