Fognini stuns Davydenko in Stuttgart

STUTTGART, Germany, July 17 (UPI) -- Italy's Fabio Fognini knocked off second-seeded Nikolay Davydenko 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 in a rain-plagued quarterfinal Friday at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany.

The 22-year-old Fognini, the 67th-ranked men's player in the world, last reached a semifinal in July 2008 at the Croatia Open in Umag and secured his match Friday by winning three of the last four games, including Davydenko's double fault following a rain delay.
