CLEVELAND, July 16 (UPI) -- Cliff Lee threw his second complete game of the year Thursday, allowing a solo homer among nine hits in bringing Cleveland a 4-1 victory over Seattle.
Lee (5-9) is in his eighth major league season, all of them spent with the Indians, and he has nine complete games to his credit. He went the distance four times in 2008. Lee struck out nine on Thursday and did not walk a batter while throwing 112 pitches.
Asdrubal Cabrera put Cleveland in front with an RBI double in the first. Jamey Carroll doubled home a run in the second and then scored on a single by Grady Sizemore.
Seattle's homer came from Ronny Cedeno in the fifth. The Mariners committed four errors, and two of the runs they surrendered were unearned.
Garrett Olson (3-3) gave up three runs, two of them earned, on five hits over 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Cleveland began the second half of the season with the worst record in the American League.
