ATLANTA, July 16 (UPI) -- Chipper Jones put Atlanta in front with a seventh-inning single Thursday, and the Braves went on to defeat the New York Mets 5-3.
New York's Jeff Francoeur went hitless in four at bats against his former team, having been traded away by the Braves last week.
With the score tied 3-3, Brooks Conrad drew a walk from Pedro Feliciano (2-3) to open the Atlanta seventh. Martin Prado singled Conrad to third, and Jones then hit the first pitch into right to bring home the go-ahead run.
Greg Norton singled in an insurance run in the eighth. Yunel Escobar and Garret Anderson hit solo homers in the second to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Ryan Church, acquired by the Braves in the deal that sent Francoeur to New York, came on as a pinch-runner and scored on Norton's single in the eighth.
The win went to Manny Acosta (1-0), who worked the seventh inning. Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth and collected his 13th save.
