MLB: St. Louis 4, Chi Cubs 2 (2nd game)

CHICAGO, July 13 (UPI) -- Ryan Ludwick hit a a pair of two-run home runs Sunday to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs took the opener 7-3 behind a six-inning effort by starter Carlos Zambrano, who also contributed a solo homer to go along with a three-run homer by Micah Hoffpauir.

Cardinals' starter Adam Wainwright (10-5) got the win in the second game, allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Wainwright also had two hits for St. Louis, which salvaged a split of the four-game series with the Cubs and heads into the All-Star break with a 2 1/2 game lead over Milwaukee in the NL Central.

Ryan Franklin struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 21st save of the season for St. Louis.

Cubs' starter Randy Wells (4-4) went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits to take the loss.

Milton Bradley and Derrek Lee each drove in a run for the Cubs, who lost for the fourth time in their last six games and are tied with Houston for third in the NL Central, 3 1/2 games behind the Cardinals.
