NURBURG, Germany, July 12 (UPI) -- Pole winner Mark Webber won Sunday's German Grand Prix auto race in Nurburg, his first career Formula One victory.

It happened despite a penalty for running into Rubens Barrichello while Barrichello tried to pass him on the race's first lap.

Webber then drove his No. 14 Red Bull Renault to the lead after the second round of pit stops and dominated from that point, recording his first win in his 130th race.

"It is an incredible day for me," the native of Queanbeyan, Australia, said at a post-race news conference. "I knew I was in a good position to try and win the race today. The only thing in the end that I thought was going to beat me or test me even more was the rain but even that held off."

Webber, 32, is the first Australian driver to win a grand prix since Alan Jones in 1981.

Teammate Sebastian Vettel was second, Felipe Massa (Ferrari) third and Nico Rosberg (Williams) was fourth.
