
CHICAGO, July 12 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs got four runs on two home runs, three more on St. Louis errors and whipped the Cardinals 7-3 Sunday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.
Micah Hoffpauir slugged a three-run homer, and Carlos Zambrano, the winning pitcher, added a solo shot and improved his record to 5-4. Zambrano allowed three runs and five hits in six innings.
The Cubs got a run on a throwing error by second baseman Skip Schumaker and two on a misplayed grounder by first baseman Albert Pujols in the seventh inning.
Pujols hit a two-run double and Joe Thursday drove in a run for the Cardinals.
Loser Kyle Lohse (4-5), who hadn't pitched in more than a month because of an arm injury, gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings.
