BOSTON, July 12 (UPI) -- Josh Beckett threw a complete-game three-hit shutout Sunday, helping the Boston Red Sox record an easy 6-0 win over the Kansas City Royals.
Beckett (11-3) retired the side in the first three innings before David DeJesus hit a lead-off double in the top of the fourth.
With 94 pitches, the All-Star right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
Five batters had one RBI.
A run scored on Jacoby Ellsbury's double-play ground out in the fifth, while Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis had two hits apiece for the Red Sox, who won five of six before the start of the All-Star break Monday.
Pedroia will miss the All-Star Game to be with his ailing, pregnant wife.
Mitch Maier and Mark Teahen had the other hits for the Royals, who have lost nine of their last 13 games overall.
Losing pitcher Bruce Chen (0-4) yielded three earned runs and six hits in three innings.
