NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- Philadelphia right fielder Jayson Werth was named Friday to replace the injured Carlos Beltran on the National League All-Star team.

Werth was selected by National League and Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel because Beltran, New York's center fielder, has not recovered from a bone bruise in his right knee and will not be available for Tuesday's contest at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Beltran is batting .336 with eight homers and 40 RBI in 241 at-bats with a .527 slugging percentage.

Werth has homered in four straight games and is batting .268 with 20 home runs, 54 RBI, 12 stolen bases a .373 on-base percentage.

"His stats definitely go up there with the other guys," Manuel told the Wilmington (Del.) News Journal Thursday.

Werth's first All-Star berth gives the defending champion Phillies three outfielders on the squad for the first time in franchise history. The others are Raul Ibanez (22 homers, 59 RBI) and Shane Victorino (.309 batting average, 42 RBI).
