PHOENIX, July 10 (UPI) -- Brett Carroll's three-run homer was the centerpiece of a 10-run eighth inning Thursday that gave the Florida Marlins a 14-7 win over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks had won a season-best five straight games and took a 7-0 lead through five innings. Florida, however, brought an emphatic end to the Arizona run of success by scoring 14 times in the course of three innings.

The Marlins sent 14 men to the plate in the eighth and came up with eight hits while taking advantage of an error and a passed ball. The big inning began with Arizona still holding a 7-4 lead but the Marlins quickly loaded the bases against Juan Gutierrez.

After Scott Schoeneweis relived Gutierrez, Ross Gload drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder and Carroll hit his to-ahead, three-run homer as a pinch-hitter.

The onslaught continued with RBI singles by Dan Uggla, Cody Ross and Jeremy Hermida, along with a run-scoring double by John Baker. The final two runs of the inning came in on a passed ball and Gload's second fielder's choice grounder of the frame.

Schoeneweis (1-1) took the loss, having retired just one man in the eighth.

Kiko Calero (2-0) was credited with the win after working a perfect seventh.

Arizona built its 7-0 lead thanks in part to Justin Upton's two-run homer in the first.
