NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- Bronson Arroyo allowed four hits and threw the second shutout of his career Friday in carrying the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 victory over the New York Mets.

Arroyo (9-8) did not walk a batter and struck out five to win for the first time in four decisions. Cincinnati had lost four of its previous five games.

New York did not have more than one base runner in any inning and did not advance a runner past first all night. Arroyo went the distance for the eighth time in his 10 major league seasons.

Joey Votto hit a homer in the fourth to put the Reds in front and Laynce Nix added a solo shot in the sixth.

Fernando Nieve (3-3) took the loss, surrendering three runs on eight hits over six innings. He also had one of New York's hits.

The Mets have lost six of their last seven and have scored just 10 runs over their last seven contests.
