Clippers sign No. 1 pick Blake Griffin

LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, to his first pro contract.

No terms were disclosed.

The 6-foot-10 inch native of Oklahoma City left the Big 12 Conference school after his sophomore season when he earned National Player of the Year honors with per-game averages of 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds.

His total of 504 rebounds was the highest in college basketball since Larry Bird's 505 in 1978-79.

"The good thing for Blake is he's walking into a team where the roster composition is playoff caliber," assistant general manager Neil Olshey told the Los Angeles Daily News on May 20 after the draft lottery. "I don't think anybody's expecting him to have to play 40 minutes a night and take 20 shots. He can kind of find his way and find ways to contribute."

Griffin, 20, will play for the team's summer league club at Las Vegas beginning Monday.
