
CHICAGO, July 9 (UPI) -- Kelly Shoppach drove in five runs Thursday to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 10-8 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Shoppach's only hit in the game, a grand slam, gave Cleveland a 6-2 lead in the top of the second inning. He drew a bases loaded walk in the third.
Ryan Garko had four hits and one RBI, Jhonny Peralta had three hits and one RBI, while Victor Martinez drove in a run for the Indians, who won twice in the three-game series after seven losses in their previous 11 games against Chicago.
The winner was reliever Tony Sipp (1-0), who pitched 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief.
Closer Kerry Wood earned his 11th save.
Chris Getz led Chicago with four hits and two RBI. A.J. Pierzynski had two hits -- one a solo homer -- and two RBI, Scott Podsednik had two hits and one RBI and Jermaine Dye had two hits for the White Sox, who had won nine of 11.
The losing pitcher was starter Clayton Richard (3-3), who allowed six runs on four hits with three walks and one strikeout and left the game after failing to retire a batter in the second inning.
