Top seeds roll at Swedish Open

Top seeds Carolina Wozniacki and Dominika Cibulkova each had straight-set victories Wednesday in the second round of the $220,000 Swedish Open.

Wozniacki, ranked No. 9 in the world and seeded first this week, defeated Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-2. Wozniacki got 73 percent of her first serves in and was broken just twice in the match on a clay court.

Cibulkova, seeded second, was more dominant, taking out Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-1, 6-1 in 65 minutes. Cibulkova took advantage of Llagostera Vives's second serve, winning 22 of the 29 points in that situation.

No. 3-seeded Flavia Pennetta stopped Masa Zec Peskiric 6-1, 6-2 but fifth-seeded Sorana Cirstea dropped a third-set tiebreaker and lost to Gisela Dulko 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) and No. 6-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova fell 6-2, 6-3 to Maria Kirilenko.

Other matches Wednesday saw No. 7-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro topping Ellen Allgurin 6-1, 6-4, Alla Kudryavtseva upseting eighth-seeded Iveta Benesova 6-2, 6-4 and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beating Angelique Kerber 6-3, 6-2.

Report: Players want LPGA chief out

Marquee names on the women's tour want LPGA Commissioner Carolyn Bivens to resign, Golfweek Magazine said.

A report said key players recently sent a letter to the LPGA Tour's boards, saying Bivens is hurting the tour, not the poor economy, and new leadership is needed to rebuild relationships with longtime sponsors.

Some of the world's top women's golfers, including No. 1 Lorena Ochoa, No. 4 Paula Creamer and No. 13 Morgan Pressel, met in Orlando last week and discussed the tour's loss of a longtime sponsor in Corning, N.Y. (Corning Classic) and the uncertainty of stops in Williamsburg, Va. (Michelob Ultra Championship) and the Kapalua Classic (Maui, Hawaii).

The LPGA Tour has lost seven tournaments since 2007, three in Hawaii.

"We are actively working with our executive board of management to create the best product for our partners and fans," Christie Kerr told CBS Sportsline.

Tour spokesman David Higdon told the magazine that Bivens would not be available for comment.

Report: Pitcher Bartolo Colon missing

CHICAGO, July 8 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox were looking for 2005 American League Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon, the team said.

The veteran right-hander is due to continue rehabbing his injured left knee with a start for Triple-A Charlotte Thursday, but the White Sox had no idea where he was, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

Colon signed a free-agent contract with the White Sox in the off-season, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list June 9 because of the injury.

The newspaper said he was sent to rehab to work on his breaking ball after going 3-6 with a 4.23 ERA in 11 games (55 1/3 innings).

"If he gets to the point where he's ready to mix in more of his breaking balls, he has a place here," Ken Williams, the Sox general manager, told the newspaper. "If he doesn't, he doesn't have a place here. If he's in Charlotte on Thursday, he starts."

Report: Coach K returning to Team USA

Duke men's hoops coach Mike Krzyzewski likely will coach Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics, sources say.

The 2012 squad could include NBA stars Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

The unnamed sources told the Boston Globe an announcement is expected July 21 in Las Vegas before a minicamp for national team prospects July 22-25.

"All leads point to Coach K coming back," USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo told the newspaper Tuesday.

Kyzyzewski led Team USA to a gold medal in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics and has won three national titles at Duke (1991, 1992 and 2001) in 29 years coaching the Blue Devils.

The Globe added the sources said he is committed to the 2010 World Championships in Turkey.

He lead Team USA to 36-1 record from 2006-08, but is 0-2 in World Championship competition.
